Chapter 13: Humanism and Transhumanism – The Beast Offers an Upgrade

From the beginning, the serpent's deception was framed as an upgrade:

Genesis 3:5:

"For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods..."

This same offer persists in the ideology of humanism and its modern offspring: transhumanism. Humanism exalts man as the highest authority. Transhumanism goes further—offering man the tools to transcend his own limitations through technology.

Both reject dependence on God. Both see salvation not as spiritual rebirth, but as technological evolution.

Humanism: Man as God

Humanism places man at the center. It teaches that human reason, ethics, and progress are sufficient for creating utopia. It rejects divine revelation and frames religion as outdated myth. This philosophy did not emerge accidentally. It was cultivated deliberately through the Enlightenment, through secular education, through the systematic removal of God from public discourse.

Psalm 14:1:

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."

The progression is clear. First, question God's authority. Then, replace His law with human consensus. Then, redefine morality as whatever serves human flourishing. Then, elevate science to the status of religion. Then, declare that man, not God, determines truth, meaning, and purpose.

In the system, science replaces Scripture. Progress replaces Providence. The human will replaces the divine will. Man is no longer a creation of God, but the creator of his own destiny. Universities teach that humans are the result of random mutation and natural selection, that consciousness is merely brain chemistry, that free will is an illusion, and that morality is cultural conditioning. Once these premises are accepted, the individual becomes malleable. If there is no God, there is no transcendent standard. If there is no transcendent standard, then whoever holds power defines reality.

Consider what humanism has produced. Abortion on demand, because the woman's choice supersedes the child's right to life. Euthanasia, because quality of life supersedes the sanctity of life. Gender ideology, because subjective identity supersedes biological reality. Moral relativism, where the only sin is claiming that sin exists. This is not enlightenment. This is darkness branded as progress.

Romans 1:21-22:

"Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools."

But this is the great irony: in claiming self-lordship, man becomes more easily enslaved. Without an external anchor, he is tossed by every new doctrine, every trending ideology, every false promise. The humanist believes he is autonomous, but he is controlled by the spirit of the age. He thinks he is free, but he obeys the crowd. He rejects the authority of God, but submits to the authority of institutions, experts, influencers, and algorithms. He has not escaped bondage. He has simply changed masters.

Transhumanism: Becoming More Than Human

Transhumanism builds on humanism by offering man godlike powers. Through genetic editing, brain-machine interfaces, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence, the promise is made: you will be stronger, smarter, eternal. This is not fringe speculation. It is the stated goal of some of the most influential figures in technology and science today.

Ray Kurzweil, Google's Director of Engineering, predicts the "singularity" by 2045, a moment when artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence and human consciousness merges with machines. He speaks of defeating death, of uploading minds to the cloud, of achieving immortality through technology. Yuval Noah Harari, advisor to the World Economic Forum, openly discusses the coming age of "Homo Deus," humans upgraded into gods through biotechnology and AI. He writes, "In the twenty-first century, humans are likely to make a serious bid for immortality." Not through Christ. Through code.

Elon Musk's Neuralink is developing brain implants that connect human neurons directly to computers. The stated goal is to treat neurological conditions. The unstated goal is to merge human cognition with artificial intelligence, creating a hybrid consciousness that can process information at machine speeds. CRISPR gene-editing technology has already been used to alter human embryos, creating genetically modified babies in China. The technology exists to rewrite the human genome, to remove diseases, enhance intelligence, select traits, and design children according to parental preference. This is not healing. This is playing Creator.

This is not simply technological advancement. It is the redefinition of what it means to be human. And once humanity is redefined, it can be redesigned. Once redesigned, it can be controlled. And once controlled, it ceases to bear the image of God.

Genesis 1:27:

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

To alter the human genome is to deface the image of God. To merge human consciousness with AI is to pollute the soul with something that has no soul. To replace biological humanity with synthetic augmentation is to reject the temple God built and construct a counterfeit in its place.

Daniel 2:43 (concerning the final kingdom):

"And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay."

Many see in this a prophecy of hybridization, a merging of human and non-human elements. Transhumanism fulfills this through synthetic DNA, AI consciousness, and augmented bodies. Iron mixed with clay. The mechanical merged with the biological. And the result, as Scripture warns, does not cleave. It does not hold. It is unstable. It is abomination.

The system no longer seeks to control man. It seeks to remake him. And once remade, he will no longer be man. He will be something post-human, something anti-human, something that can no longer cry out to the Creator because the image has been erased.

Digital Immortality: The False Promise of Eternal Life

Transhumanists often speak of "uploading consciousness" to escape death. They dream of living forever in digital simulations or cloned bodies. They envision a future where the brain is scanned neuron by neuron, its patterns replicated in software, and the person continues to exist as code running on a server. This is the ultimate counterfeit to eternal life through Christ.

John 11:25-26:

"Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?"

Christ offers resurrection, the restoration of body and soul in glorified form, eternal communion with the Creator, life that is truly life. The beast system offers a version of this promise, but without the cross, without holiness, without God. It is immortality without resurrection. Consciousness without a soul. Existence without life.

Consider what this truly means. Your consciousness, the essence of your thoughts and memories, copied into a machine. Your body discarded. Your existence reduced to electrical patterns running on silicon. You perceive. You think. But you do not breathe. You do not touch. You do not feel the warmth of the sun or the embrace of another human being. You are data. Trapped. Isolated. And worst of all, unable to die.

We discussed this in Chapter 12: Revelation 9:6 warns of a time when "men shall seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them." What better description of a consciousness uploaded to a server, trapped in an eternal digital loop, with no body to die, no mechanism for escape, and no hope of release? The transhumanists promise liberation from death. But what they deliver is a prison from which death itself has been removed. Not because you live, but because you cannot die.

This is not eternal life. It is eternal bondage. A soul trapped in circuitry is no different than a ghost in chains. And once you are uploaded, who controls the server? Who owns the code? Who decides whether your simulation continues or is terminated? You have not escaped mortality. You have surrendered your existence to those who control the machine. You have traded dependence on God for dependence on corporations, on governments, on the system. And the system does not love you. It uses you.

The Mark of Enhancement

Scripture warns of a future system where no one can buy or sell without the mark.

Revelation 13:16-17:

"And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."

While interpretations vary, transhumanist technologies align disturbingly well with this vision. The technology is not future speculation. It exists now.

Sweden has implanted thousands of citizens with microchips in their hands for payment, building access, and identification. The procedure takes minutes. A small incision. A rice-sized chip inserted beneath the skin. And suddenly, you can board a train, unlock your office, or pay for groceries with a wave of your hand. No wallet. No keys. No cards. Just your body, interfaced with the system.

Digital ID systems are being rolled out globally, linking biometric data, financial records, health status, and social credit scores into a single unified profile. Your face is your passport. Your iris is your bank account. Your palm is your identity. And if the system decides you are non-compliant, your access is revoked. No appeal. No recourse. Just digital exile.

Brain implants are no longer science fiction. Neuralink has already demonstrated the ability to read neural signals and translate them into commands. Paralyzed patients can control robotic arms with their thoughts. The next stage is writing to the brain, not just reading from it. Thoughts can be implanted. Memories can be edited. Emotions can be regulated. And the line between your own will and external control disappears entirely.

These are not random inventions. They are stepping stones toward a world where identity, ability, and access are all mediated through enhancements. First, the technology is introduced as optional. A convenience. A medical solution. Then it becomes normalized. Everyone has it. Then it becomes expected. Employers require it. Schools require it. Then it becomes coerced. Without it, you cannot function in society. And finally, it becomes mandatory. Refuse, and you are locked out of the economy, out of travel, out of participation in civilized life.

What begins as convenience quickly becomes covenant. A pledge of allegiance to the system in exchange for superhumanity. And once the enhancement is inside you, it is no longer external control. It is internal. The system does not need to force you to comply. The chip, the implant, the augmentation does it for you. You become the enforcement mechanism of your own bondage.

Neo-Gnosticism: Salvation Through Secret Knowledge

At the heart of transhumanism lies an ancient lie: that salvation comes through knowledge. That suffering is to be escaped, not redeemed. That the material body is to be upgraded, not resurrected. This is Gnosticism repackaged for the digital age.

The ancient Gnostics believed that the material world was evil, created by a demiurge, a lesser god. They taught that the body was a prison, that matter was corrupt, and that salvation came through secret knowledge (gnosis) that would liberate the divine spark within from its physical cage. The goal was not resurrection of the body, but escape from the body. Not redemption of creation, but transcendence beyond creation.

Transhumanism echoes this heresy perfectly. The body is seen as flawed, limited, obsolete. Death is the ultimate enemy, not because it separates us from God, but because it ends our existence. The solution is not repentance and faith in Christ, but technological enhancement and uploaded consciousness. The promise is that through science, through gene editing, through brain-machine interfaces, we can shed the limitations of flesh and achieve a higher state of being.

But this is rebellion dressed as enlightenment. God did not create the body as a prison. He created it as a temple. He Himself took on flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. He did not consider the body beneath Him. He sanctified it by inhabiting it.

John 1:14:

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."

And the promise of the Gospel is not escape from the body, but resurrection of the body. Not transcendence into the digital ether, but glorification of the physical form.

1 Corinthians 15:42-44:

"So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body."

God does not despise the flesh. He redeems it. And those who reject the resurrection in favor of digital immortality are not progressing. They are regressing into ancient heresy, into the same lie the Gnostics believed two thousand years ago.

1 Corinthians 1:27-29:

"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence."

God chose weakness, humility, and surrender. The beast system glorifies power, pride, and transcendence. It is not content with being human. It wants to be something else. Something post-human. Something anti-human. Something that no longer needs God because it has become its own god.

Resistance Through Reclamation

To resist the transhumanist spirit is not to reject technology entirely. It is to reclaim the definition of humanity. We must remember what we are, who made us, and what our purpose is.

We are made in the image of God. Genesis 1:27 declares, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." This is not a metaphor. It is the foundation of human dignity, human value, and human identity. To alter that image through genetic manipulation or synthetic augmentation is to deface the artwork of the Creator.

We are fallen, yes. We are broken, yes. But we are redeemable. Not through technology, but through the blood of Jesus Christ. Not through enhancement, but through regeneration. Not through merging with machines, but through being born again by the Spirit of God.

2 Corinthians 5:17:

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

This is the true transformation. Not uploading your mind to a server. Not editing your genome. Not implanting a chip in your brain. But dying to self and being raised in Christ. This is the upgrade the beast system cannot offer, because it requires surrender, not power. It requires humility, not pride. It requires faith in God, not faith in man.

Our bodies are not prisons to be escaped. They are temples to be consecrated.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20:

"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

But the system does not want you to see your body as a temple. It wants you to see it as a problem. This is the Hegelian dialectic applied to your flesh: create the problem, provoke the reaction, offer the solution. The medical-industrial complex makes people feel inadequate about their God-given bodies so they seek to alter them. The cosmetics industry teaches you to cover your natural self, to hide the beautiful art of your Heavenly Father. It says that you know better than He does for what you need. So you cover yourself with costly apparel and adorn yourself with makeup, which is literally one letter from "made up," a euphemism for "lie."

And this attack targets women most of all. You are not beautiful enough. Your skin is too dark, too light, too flawed. Your body is the wrong shape, the wrong size, the wrong proportions. Your hair is the wrong texture, the wrong color. You need foundation, concealer, contouring, highlighting. You need to reshape, recolor, reconstruct. The pressure is relentless. And what begins as covering escalates into cutting.

The societal pressures grow and they begin altering their bodies in irreversible ways, marking their body and cutting their flesh. They insert silicone, inject toxins, undergo surgeries for worldly acceptance. Breast implants. Lip fillers. Botox. Rhinoplasty. Liposuction. Body modifications that promise beauty but deliver bondage. And still the dissatisfaction remains, because the problem was never the body. The problem was rejecting the One who made it.

Leviticus 19:28:

"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord."

If they could just recognize that they were created in the image of the most loving, all-powerful Father in existence and outside of existence, they might know peace and be content. God our Father clothes us all in a unique raiment known as our body, which is also a temple. Each temple is unique, crafted by His hand, bearing His signature. But they seek to destroy their temple, to deface their temple, so they can all look like clones, following after the influence of fallen angels. The stars' ability to affect the destiny of men. Influence. The same force that drives the trends, the fashions, the beauty standards that change with every season but always demand conformity, always demand alteration, always demand dissatisfaction with what God has given.

This is not self-improvement. This is self-destruction. This is not enhancement. This is defacement. And the endgame is not beauty. It is uniformity. A world where everyone has altered themselves to match the image projected by the system, where the natural has been erased, where the unique has been standardized, and where the temple has been demolished in favor of a synthetic replica.

We do not need neural links to be wise. We need the mind of Christ. We do not need gene editing to be perfected. We need sanctification. We do not need digital immortality. We need resurrection. And we do not need cosmetic surgery, implants, or enhancements to be beautiful. We need to see ourselves as God sees us: fearfully and wonderfully made, crafted with intention, loved beyond measure.

Philippians 2:5-8:

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."

Christ, who is God, did not cling to His divine power. He emptied Himself. He took on human flesh. He humbled Himself. He died. And through His death and resurrection, He offers us eternal life. Not as uploaded code. Not as genetically enhanced beings. But as resurrected sons and daughters of God, bearing glorified bodies that will never decay, never fail, and never be subject to the system again.

Humanism tells us to worship ourselves. Transhumanism tells us to remake ourselves. But both lead away from God and deeper into bondage. The serpent's offer has not changed: "Ye shall be as gods." But we were never meant to become gods. We were meant to walk with God. In humility, in truth, and in dependence on His power alone.

The system offers you an upgrade. But it is a downgrade disguised. A trap disguised as transcendence. A chain disguised as liberation. Do not take the bait. You do not need to be more than human. You need to be fully human, as God intended. Image-bearer. Temple. Child of the living God.

Next: The transhumanist agenda is not new. It echoes the days of Noah, when the sons of God mingled with the daughters of men and produced something that was no longer human. We will examine the parallels between that ancient corruption and the genetic experimentation, hybrid beings, and boundary violations occurring today.
